5 years ago (2002): Antoine Kennedy, running 58 yards for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball, gained 149 yards and scored three touchdowns as Normal Community opened with an impressive 49-14 football victory over Urbana. James Wade ran for 238 yards in Bloomington’s 39-22 win over Danville.
15 years ago (1992): Senior quarterback Kenton Carr says he finally feels at home at Eureka College. A former starter at Bloomington and Washington high schools, Carr played at two different colleges before winding up at Eureka this fall.
25 years ago (1982): Rushville Wells Fargo scored six runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Bloomington Hearts, 7-1, in the championship game of the ASA Class AA State Fast Pitch Tournament at O’Neil Park. Both teams will advance to the Midwest Regional in Aurora.
50 years ago (1957): A misjudged fly ball in the sixth inning allowed two runners to scamper home and pulled the Budweiser Chiefs past West Towne of Milwaukee, 4-3, in the opening round of the West Central Regional softball tourney at Aurora. Once again, the Bloomington team got a superb performance from ageless pitcher Hoke Wilson.
