Daily Digest for Sept. 1, 2007: More street, road work coming next week NORMAL — Motorists already trying to figure out what streets and roads are open will face two more obstacles next week. College Avenue between Fell Avenue and Linden Street in Normal will be closed to through traffic for a week, beginning Tuesday, while crews install storm sewers as part of the ongoing uptown redevelopment project. The detour for eastbound motorists on College will be north on Fell to Willow Street, east on Willow to Linden Street, south on Linden back to College. College between Fell and the Constitution Trail will be open to traffic to provide access to properties between Fell and the trail. Access to properties between the trail and Linden will be available via Beaufort Street from the east and via Linden through the existing parking lot of east of the trail. Meanwhhile, road work also will begin Tuesday on U.S. 150 between Goodfield and the McLean County line. Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures while crews patch, mill and resurface that stretch. Walking tours set for uptown NORMAL — City Council members and town staff are offering regular walking tours of uptown Normal beginning Wednesday. The tours will begin at the Uptown Renewal Office, 108 E. Beaufort St., at noon on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Tours for other times may be scheduled by calling Uptown Marketing Manager Nora Dukowitz at (309) 433-3420. During the tours, council members and staff will answer questions about the renewal plan. Presentations of the plan also are available by contacting Dukowitz. Uptown Normal is in the midst of a several-year redevelopment that includes a Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, planned mixed-use buildings, two parking decks and new infrastructure. A roundabout will be built at the intersection of Beaufort and North streets and a planned Constitution Boulevard, which will travel north of the roundabout and incorporate Constitution Trail. Hudson firefighters to dedicate station HUDSON — The Hudson Community Fire Protection District will dedicate its new fire station from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at 502 N. Broadway. The district serves 56 square miles with a population of 4,850 people, including the Village of Hudson, the community of Lake Bloomington, Hudson Township, Normal Township, Kansas Township, Money Creek Township, Lake Bloomington, Lake Evergreen, Comlara Park Campground and Recreation Area, three summer camps thatserve children with disabilities and a nine-mile stretch of Interstate 39. Victims sought in fraud case BARTONVILLE — Law enforcement agencies in Central Illinois are investigating a home repair fraud case involving Illini Siding and Windows of Bartonville. Authorities allege Illini continued to solicit and accept payment for home repair work and improvements without performing the work that was paid for by the customers. If you believe you may be a victim, call Bartonville Police Department at (309) 697-2323 or Illinois State Police, Zone 4 Investigations, at (309) 693-5181. Eaton Corp. gives money to groups LINCOLN — Eaton Corp. has donated $21,500 to community organizations for various activities and programs. Recipients include Lincoln and Logan County Development Partnership, $10,000; Lincoln Area YMCA, $6,000; and Junior Achievement (JA), $5,500. |
