Police arrest man accused of firing gun in Bloomington
By Pantagraph staff
BLOOMINGTON — Police on Friday found and arrested a 29-year-old man accused of firing a handgun at others in a confrontation Aug. 26, leading officers to surround an apartment for nearly six hours.
Officers thought Antonio E. Herron fled into the apartment in the 400 block of North Lee Street after the gunshots about 10:20 p.m. Police raided the home about 4 a.m. Sunday and found nobody inside.
A court file says Herron had struck a woman in the face, causing scratches, and he fired a 9 mm pistol at a man or others in the incident.
He is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated assault and domestic battery. He is a felon because of a conviction in a 2004 case, in which he was convicted of possessing and intending to sell marijuana.
Herron was arrested without incident in a traffic stop about 1:30 p.m. in the 800 block of South Allin Street, said Bloomington police spokesman Duane Moss. A deputy U.S. marshal spotted Herron near the intersection of Main and Lincoln streets, called for more officers and stopped him on Allin, he said.
