Tremont handles GCMS

J.D. Vanrheeden rushed for a team-high 79 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Luke Hansen kicked a pair of field goals as the Tremont High School football team notched its first victory with a 34-8 Heart of Illinois Conference win at Gibson City on Friday night.

Vanrheeden scored on a 7-yard run in the first quarter and a 2-yard plunge in the third quarter for the Turks, who broke away from a slim 10-8 lead at halftime by outscoring GCMS 24-0 in the second half. Hansen, who made good on all four extra-point kicks, nailed field goals of 36 yards in the second quarter and 43 yards in the final period.

Bo Vanrheeden added a 20-yard scoring run and Jacob Mundy had an interception return for a touchdown for Tremont.

Michael Romshek led GCMS (1-1, 0-1) in rushing with 52 yards, including a 7-yard TD run in the first quarter.
