Truer vision shown by crossing political lines
Advertisement

Recently I saw an essay on Alex Jones' Web site that appeared under the heading, ``Ron Paul teams up with Democratic candidate to end war.''

Here is the featured quote from an interview Rep. Paul did with Joe Scarborough of MSNBC on July 27:

``Sometimes these liberal and conservative labels are misleading. I think if you approach this from a constitutional viewpoint, we can join hands with the left as well as the right and come up with a solution to get our troops home.''

This quote is a reference to Rep. Paul, R-Texas, co-sponsoring a bill with fellow Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, that would ``repeal Bush's authority to use force in Iraq within the next six months.''

That is the kind of thinking that I find so hopeful about Ron Paul's candidacy. It starts with what is constitutional and then works with people across the political spectrum for the common good.

I believe he will work to end the war in Iraq and direct a non-interventionist foreign policy, end the financial manipulations of the Federal Reserve - which is not a federal agency at all, but is owned by private banks for their own vast profits, end the drug war as it is being current and disastrously fought and protect our liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

This represents a truer vision of what America is supposed to be.

It is still early, so final decisions do not have to be made yet. But I would say to anyone that Ron Paul's views and stands deserve a fair hearing.

The Ron Paul meet-up group is held every Wednesday at the Coffeehouse in uptown Normal at 6 p.m. Come and see what this is about.

" "Gregg", why repeal Bush's authority? For the Legislative Branch to repeal the authority of the Executive Branch requires a Constitutional Amendment. That's too extremist and it is never going to happen. The Constitution requires Congress to appropriate money to fight wars. It's completely out of the presidents hands. The Democrat Congress de-funded the Vietnam war in 1973, and that was the beginning of the end of that war. Nixon was forced to bring the troops back home. So, if you lefties truly want America to cut-n-run in Iraq, like you did in Vietnam, then stand tall and go for it, but stop all this subterfuge. "

" Rep. Paul opposes abortion partly because of his experience as a doctor delivering many babies. He opposes the drug war because he sees it as unconstitutional. No one is probably going to agree with every thing a candidate stands for. All we can do is make our best judgement. "

" There are three candidates who are not members of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). They are Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel. To begin to understand what this means, see the video "The CFR: A force to be reckoned with" on the dailypaul website. These three candidates are also the only ones who have signed onto the patriotsquestion911 website, asking legitimate questions about the events of that day and calling for a real and independent investigation. They have integrity and can work for change. The others can only serve the interests of the elite. Our choice here is incredibly important. I hope we choose wisely. "

" My research on Ron Paul has shown me quite the opposite of what your post says. The man is running as a Presidential candidate on the Republican ticket. Multiple YouTube clips identify his position on subject matter as well as such sites including www.ronpaul2008.com. I suspect that you have either done a poor job of conducting your own research or wish to spread misleading information. "

Vic Connor wrote on Sep 4, 2007 10:07 AM:

" Ron Paul has stated multiple times that he is running as a traditional conservative Repubilcan. He says he will pull out the troops immediately, eliminate the IRS immediately, disband the Federal Reserve which are really a group of private international bankers controlling US purse-strings. I think those things alone would be useful to the 99.9% of the poorest of Americans, and I clearly don't care about the interests of the wealthiest 0.1%. Ron Paul is also against abortion and for nuclear energy, so I guess no one is perfect. "

To Vic Connor wrote on Sep 4, 2007 6:30 AM:

" Vic I agree with Greg here it is to some extent. You say you have seen Ron Paul during debates and he reads a lot and is knowledgeable in many areas, that still does not change the fact that the man has not openly declared his intent on which platform or party to run on. This is disturbing to me as a voter and a student of American politics for many years. If Ron Paul in his ten terms in Congress has done such a bang up job, tell me Vic some of the bills he has sponsored or co-sponsored. What is his stand on key issues that will lead our country, and are important to Americans? What I have seen from Ron Paul in debates is that he has a tendency to side step many tough questions presented to him. Of course this is just my opinion and observations. I am looking for a new face and voice to hitch my wagon too, I am fed up with the current trash we have coming in and out of Washington and Springfield. "

" I like the fact that Ron Paul has teamed up with Democratic candidates. That's is what it seems like from time to time. In fact anyone who backs him knows that he is a sure loser and is helping the Democrat candidate. I wonder if someone is thinking that Ross Perot helped Clinton win so maybe Ron Paul can help Hillary win. Once bit twice shy. No third candidates for me ever again. It just assures that someone you really don't want to be president will be elected. So far there is no Democrat candidate that I would consider voting for. "

" Perhaps I'm not as involved or insightful as pantagraph.com regulars, but before anyone dismisses Ron Paul's candidacy, I strongly suggest that he or she look into the Federal Reserve, its owners, their wealth, and how they transfer wealth from the lower and middle classes to themselves through the harmful and deceitful "inflation tax" that RP loves to talk about. Keep in mind that not one penny of American taxpayers' income tax goes to our government, but rather 100% of what is deducted from their paychecks every week goes into the pocket of the PRIVATELY OWNED Federal Reserve. "

" The rampant hatred in this country for anyone that is not like you is a travesty that has been propagated by the media and politics, but Ron Paul is a uniter instead of a divider. People of all walks of life come together to support his bid for the Presidency, working together for a common cause. This is exactly what Ron Paul does when he sees the federal government running a muck with violations of the Constitution and our Civil Liberties. Like most Americans I want out of Iraq, but before I felt this way I truly wanted to have the war bring safety and security to all of the Iraqi people. It's not working and it's time to bring our troops home. It's a real shame that so many people have died, both ours and theirs, but when I hear someone say that we have to stay there so that those deaths mean something all I can think is...how many more deaths will it take to make those deaths mean something? It's time for the people of America to take back our country and bring it back in line with what we all know it should be. "

It is extremely sad and disgraceful the deceit played upon the American people as the establishment and the mainstream media constantly downplay and throw obstacles at the Ron Paul campaign. Obviously his campaign speaks the truth that people want to hear. The MEDIA IS AFRAID of RON PAUL BECAUSE HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH. It is sadness in America when We The People are not allowed to vote. Ron Paul for President 2008...I am more determined than ever to help this campaign as best I can. "

Vic Connor wrote on Sep 3, 2007 8:38 AM:

" Well said Gregg! I had to laugh at a statement criticising you that questions Ron Paul's "experience for international policy making." Paul has had ten terms in Texas as a representative, reads a lot and his debates have shown him very knowledgeable on a lot of subjects including foreign history, and yet George Bush is our president who had ZERO experience and studies about foreign policy. Also, the critic questions what Paul has done for his district who elected him TEN times. That made me smile too. "

" Gregg, while I applaud these two congressmen for their efforts to end this idiotic war, I would find it hard to back Ron Paul's candidacy. It's my understanding that, aside from his war stance, he's still a fairly conservative republican from Texas on other matters. I would back Kucinich's candicacy, as I tend to agree with most everything he says. You know as well as I do that most of the republicans who post here are so far right that anything other than their view is considered "far left". Granted, Kucinich is more progressive than the other democratic candidates, but rather than "scare me", he offers me hope for the future. "

" Your idea of a big change in Washington and everywhere else for that matter is one I share with you completely. However you scared me right off the get go when you mention Ron Paul agreeing with Dennis Kucinich. Dennis is so far left the liberals wouldn't back his bid for a major office. Labeling in politics is just the way it has been for sometime now and I don't know really know who started it. That in mind I must ask who is Ron Paul and what has he done for the people in his district in Texas? Also why has he not formally announced his candidacy as an idependent? There are too many unanswered questions with this guy as far as I am concerned and like O'Bama I question his experience for international policy making. Appearing on a national TV show and agreeing with the most way person of the opposing side does not lend him credibility. Although the attempt was made to show him being able to work with both sides, you can not work with people who want it all their way or no way. "
