Cause of Tuesday fire not yet known

Fire investigation — Investigators were still trying Wednesday to determine the cause of a fire Tuesday at 812 E. Monroe St., Bloomington.

The fire damaged a second-floor apartment and led to smoke and water damage elsewhere on the first and second floors of the wood-frame home converted into apartments, a fire official said.

The fire appears to have started in the second-floor apartment’s living room, said Bloomington Assistant Fire Chief Rob Coleman. He said a fire report indicated the heat source and first item ignited were not determined Wednesday.

Nobody was hurt in the fire that put four adults and three children out of their homes, a fire official previously said.

Man accused of having marijuana

LeROY — Police found about half a pound of marijuana in a 47-year-old man’s bedroom after tracking him in connection with a hit-and-run traffic accident early Sunday just west of LeRoy, police said.

Donald Hafley, of rural LeRoy, was arrested in connection with the two-vehicle crash about 1:10 a.m. at the intersection of McLean County 300 North and 2350 East roads, police said.

Hafley is accused of fleeing the crash scene. He also is charged with unlawfully possessing more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams of marijuana

Deputies identified Hafley through information from a driver and passenger involved in the crash, and he was found at his home along U.S. 150 near LeRoy, police said. The marijuana was found in his bedroom.

Further details on the crash weren’t immediately available Wednesday night.
