PrairieThunder re-signs pair of defensemen
BLOOMINGTON -- Defensemen Tim Schneider and Casey Handrahan will return to the Bloomington PrairieThunder for a second season, the team announced Friday. Schneider, 29, played in 71 of the PrairieThunder's 76 games last season and finished with an even plus-minus rating. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder scored four goals and had three assists and 60 penalty minutes. "Tim is a smart defenseman, who can throw big hits," PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth said. "The fact that he had an even plus-minus rating last season tells you a lot about his abilities. He is ready and willing to accept the challenge of playing a more physical role this season." This will be the third season that Schneider has played for Booth, who coached the Devil's Lake, N.D. native at Fayetteville in Southern Professional Hockey League in 2005. "I've seen Tim grow as a player and I expect even better things from him this season," added Booth. Handrahan, 27, played the final 16 games of the season with the PrairieThunder after being acquired in a trade with Kalamazoo. He had three assists with the PrairieThunder and two goals and 23 assists in 55 games with Kalamazoo. Booth said he anticipates bringing 24 players to preseason training camp when it begins Oct. 8. |
