Injured bus driver upgraded to good condition

SAUNEMIN — The bus driver injured in a Sept. 6 school bus accident on Illinois 116 near Saunemin, has been upgraded to good condition.

Charles Kestler, 54, Cullom, is in good condition at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Memorial Hospital in Pontiac.

Whitney English, a student at Tri-Point hospital, remains in serious condition at OSF St, Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. Ten other students and a driver in training were treated and released at OSF Saint James following the accident.

The bus driven by Kestler collided with a farm implement being towed by a pickup. A large portion of the front, left-side of the bus was torn away.

Ronald Fluegel, 48, of Lena, driver of the pickup, suffered no apparent injury. He was cited by Illinois State Police for improper lane usage.
