Cross country: Curran, Klaus run to victories

Kelly Curran of Central Catholic High School and Olivia Klaus of Eureka claimed individual victories in Saturday’s Peoria Woodruff Invitational at Detweiller Park.
Curran finished first in the girls Class AA race with a time of 18:55, and Olympia’s Breeana Ragland was second in 19:13. Mahomet-Seymour took the team title behind seventh-place finisher Hannah Schaap (19:40).
In the girls Class A meet, Klaus crossed the tape first in 17:59 to lead the Hornets to a second-place team finish. Tri-Valley’s Stephanie Brown was fourth (19:20).
Tremont’s Parker Thompson was the Class A boys winner in a time of 15:30.
NCHS girls, West boys second
Marie O’Leary finished second individually with a time of 19:30.25 to lead the Ironmen to a second place finish among 15 teams at the Lanphier Invitational in Springfield on Saturday.
Camille Dobbins (16), Mara Weaver (17) and Raquel Gibson (22) also finished in the top 25 for NCHS. Kristen Hallatt ran 20:20.73, good for eleventh place for Normal West as the Wildcats finished eighth.
Drew Kerscheiter ran a 16:02.65 to take second for Normal West in the boys race as the Wildcats took second place in the team standings. Johnny Kaufmann was fifth for Normal West in a time of 16:19.92 while Austin Baer (24) ran 17:29.72.
Nic Patti finished No. 23 with a time of 17:29.00 to lead Normal Community to a ninth place finish.
Brehm paces PBL
PBL placed second in its own invitational behind Nick Brehm, who was third in a time of 16:46.1. Bishop McNamara captured the team title with a score of 49, and PBL had 58.
