BLOOMINGTON — A man walked into Bloomington’s police station Wednesday and said he had something that needed to be destroyed. Police and emergency officials from the Secretary of State bomb squad agreed.

The man, who said he had the item about 10 years, said it was in his car nearby, police said. The McLean County Emergency Management Agency contacted the bomb squad. The item was taken to the City of Bloomington yard waste dump site south of the parking lot across from the police station.

The squad, which determined the 105 millimeter projectile was live, safely dismantled it Wednesday. The man brought it to police attention about 2 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
