Hearing set for juvenile in Pontiac gun case

PONTIAC -- An adjudicatory hearing, the equivalent of a trial for minors, is set next week for a 15-year-old boy involved in the Pontiac Township High School gun sale case, but prosecutors are still waiting on key evidence to present that could delay the hearing.

First Assistant State’s Attorney Carey Luckman said Tuesday witnesses have been subpoenaed regarding the case, and fingerprint evidence, which Luckman said represented the bulk of the prosecution’s case, is being worked on. An independent expert witness who specializes in fingerprinting is set to testify at the hearing.

The hearing is set for Sept. 25 in Livingston County Circuit Court.

The juvenile is charged with one count of unlawful use of a weapon after he allegedly held one of the six guns brought to Pontiac Township High School by Sean Sullivan, 16, of Odell, in order to sell to Martin Huerta Jr., 15 of Saunemin. The incident caused a 3 ½-hour lockdown. Sullivan and Huerta are being tried as adults.

" It doesn't matter what the court says at this point. Everyone has already associated this poor boy with the event that took place at PTHS. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. None of that matters though because he's alredy been assumed as guilty by the school, his peers, and other parents. I just don't understand what this boy did wrong, criminally. I know if someone handed me something I would hold it. I didn't know it was illegal to hold a gun. And who is to say the boy wasn't looking for the police officer in the school as well? "

" says he is being charged for unlawful use of a handgun, and all he did was hold it? Wow, holding an gun is unlawful use? It wasn't used.. I don't get that. "

" I hope all charges against everyone involved are eventually dropped. "
