Intercity volleyball roundup: Saints win at Pontiac

Results from Sept. 20
Megan Schmidt and Stephanie Buhrow combined for 32 kills to pace Central Catholic High School to a 23-25, 25-15, 25-16 Corn Belt Conference volleyball victory Thursday night at Pontiac.
Schmidt had 19 kills and Buhrow 13. Kristyn Mysker contributed 12 assists and Nicole Henson had 17 digs for the Saints (12-4, 5-0 in the Corn Belt).
Pontiac’s Ashley Timmerman collected 10 service points, five kills and 10 digs. Loni Mackinson chipped in 16 assists for the Indians. Kelsey Fairfield also had 10 digs.
NCHS stops Mattoon
Jenny Menendez had seven service points and eight digs to pace Normal Community to a 25-16, 25-21 Big 12 Conference win over host Mattoon.
Paige Lay pounded down 10 kills for the Ironmen (9-0, 4-0). Jackie Gerig recorded 15 assists.
U High victorious
Alyssa Humphreys’ eight service points and two aces led a balanced attack as the Pioneers remain undefeated in Corn Belt Conference play with a 25-23, 25-15 win over Mahomet-Seymour at Mahomet.
Ashlee Sang led the defense with 11 digs for the Pioneers (9-2, 5-0) while Maggie Bee handed out eight assists and Taylor Bruns recorded seven kills.
Mahomet-Seymour (14-4, 4-2) was led by Lindsey Storm with 12 kills and Mel Weimer with 23 assists.
BHS defeats Urbana
Junior Kasey Heckelman had nine service points, 11 kills and five digs to push Bloomington over Urbana, 25-15, 25-13, in Big 12 action at Urbana.
Ashley Beyer added to the Raiders’ offense with 11 kills. Kristin Stauter contributed 27 assists for BHS (15-1, 3-0). Urbana dropped to 7-9 and 1-1 in the Big 12.
Normal West falls to Glenwood
Despite 11 kills from Laura Wilcox and 26 assists from Allison Keith, Normal West dropped a 25-17, 17-25, 25-19 nonconference decision to host Chatham Glenwood.
Kelsey Detweiler added 18 digs for West (10-7) and Chelsea Myers chipped in eight service points.
