Thank county deputies, give them a pay raise

I want to express my support for the McLean County sheriff's deputies.

Every day and every night, these people put their lives on the line for us. They serve and protect us in rain, ice, snow, storms and heat.

I know many McLean County residents who are deeply grateful for the faithful duty that these brave policemen and women perform.

They have been put off for one whole year by one or two board members. Stop playing Ebenezer Scrooge and pay these people a decent wage.

We live in safety because of these deputies. I'm thankful for them.

" At least in regards to the prosecutors, the county board has not rejected a pay raise to the prosecutor's office in anyone's recent memory. If they ask for it, they have gotten it. So perhaps there is a different problem than the county board. "

" All my money goes to Unit 5 and Heartland Community College. Fight against their tax increases and we would have money to pay our deputies properly. "

" Perhaps it is time for the residents of McLean County to do what the residents of Bloomington did. Perhaps all of the self-serving tightwads need to be voted out of office on the County Board. Send the Co Board a message, increase deputies' pay or be voted out of office. And, please, not just pennies, increase it to a fair and equitable wage. The Sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer in the county by IL Constitution. His deputies are second highest law enforcement officers in the county. Give them the pay, respect and training to adequately live up to that Constitutional authority. Do it now and do it right. "

" Why do people take the county jobs in the first place? If the pay/nonpay rewards weren't satisfactory, the jobs wouldn't have been taken in the first place. The fact that the jobs WERE taken shows that the county deputies found sufficient pay/non pay compensation to accept the positions. Not all jobs pay the same, for different reasons. Let the marketplace work. The county jobs are filled. Yes, people may transition from those jobs to others, but that happens in a free economy. "

" I agree with this letter, and I also agree with the post about the prosecutors. They have the same problem at the State's Attorney's office, with the revolving door syndrome. New attorneys come here for a couple of years and just start getting good experience and start becoming effective and they move on to bigger and better things for more pay. This county has plenty of tax money, the board should start paying it's emplyees that protect the citizens a decent wage that will keep them here!!! "

" how much we pay this county in property taxes, and they cant pay our cops more? Im sick and tired of these fatcats sitting on the board not doing anything! "

" Perhaps McLean County Citizens could just send them all a nice thank you note and then the pay issues could be dealt with on their own merits. "
