2A boys sectional golf: U High wins by 13 strokes

Eric Meier earned medalist honors with a 2-under par 69 to lead the University High School golf team to a first-place finish at the Quincy Notre Dame Class 2A Sectional on Monday at the Westwood Golf Course in Quincy.
The Pioneers shot 288 as a team to beat host Quincy Notre Dame by 13 strokes. Both teams advanced to the state tournament Friday and Saturday at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State in Normal, where U High will shoot for its fifth straight state championship.
Macomb (311) finished third, and Central Catholic (312) took fourth. Lincoln placed seventh (322).
Individually, U High freshman Logan Stauffer (71) finished fourth and Sean Dozier (73) tied for fifth. The Pioneers’ other counting score was a 75 by Kyle English.
Four area competitors qualified as individuals. Clinton’s Shawn Evans fired 73, while Central Catholic’s Greg Naleway and Michael Ginnetti of Central Catholic both shot 75s. Mahomet-Seymour’s Seth Trolia had 77.
At Mendota: Streator’s Brandon Cinotto and Josh Gass failed to qualify in the Mendota Sectional at Mendota Golf Club.
Cinotto shot 80 to miss by two strokes, while Goss fired 87. Galesburg (311) and Peoria Notre Dame (316) took the team qualifying spots, while Galesburg’s Sean Williamson was medalist with a 3-over-par 73.
