Volleyball: NCHS tops Hinsdale South
Jenny Menendez had eight kills, eight digs and 12 service points, including three aces, to lead the Normal Community High School volleyball team to a 26-24, 25-18 nonconference win over Hinsdale South at the NCHS gym on Monday night. Taylor Coughlin added eight kills for the Ironmen, who improved their record to 18-5. Coughlin also had two blocks, as did Liz Heid. Jackie Gerig led the winners in assists with 16. BHS tips Hinsdale S. Illinois State recruit Kristin Stauter finished with 19 assists and 10 service points to lead Bloomington to a 25-18, 25-23 victory at the NCHS gym. Kasey Heckelman added 11 kills for the Purple Raiders (27-4), while Alli Kirk had 13 digs. Fieldcrest trips GCMS Kayla Conroy’s 12 assists and Hilary Timmerman’s 12 digs paced Fieldcrest to a 25-9, 25-18 Heart of Illinois Conference home victory over GCMS. Sarah Stremlau added six kills, while Katy Zimmerman had 11 service points for the Knights (12-7, 5-5). Mel McDevitt led the Falcons with 10 digs, while Lauren Pool had four blocks. Dee-Mack downs Tremont Kate Poorbaugh dished out 24 assists, four blocks, and eight service points, including four aces, to lead Deer Creek-Mackinaw past Tremont, 25-19, 27-25, in Heart of Illinois Conference play. Haley Thurmond hammered 12 kills and added seven digs for the Chiefs (24-3, 9-1). Tremont (13-11, 8-4) got seven service points and six kills from Brie Schweigert while Janelle Barrow handed out 18 assists. EPG beats Flanagan Mattie Fairchild’s 15 assists paced El Paso-Gridley to a 25-21, 25-20 HOI home victory over Flanagan. Moli Copple added six kills for the Titans (18-4, 10-1). Karie Timmerman’s 10 kills topped the Falcons (10-17, 2-8). Blue Ridge picks up road win Freshman setter Danielle Thompson had 13 service points, including six aces, and 14 assists to lead Blue Ridge to a 25-19, 27-25 victory in HOIC action at Fisher. Jamie Hendricks added eight kills for the Knights (6-15, 4-6) while Devin Houser had six digs. Paige Kirby had five kills and three digs to lead Fisher (9-9, 4-6). Tiffany Wallick added six service points, three digs and three kills for the Bunnies while Jordan Hobbs contributed 13 assists. CPCI outlasts Tri-Point Shelly Clubb drilled 10 kills and Haley Dodd dealt 17 assists as CPCI hung on for a 23-25, 25-18, 25-17 three-set win over Tri-Point. Dodd and Clubb each added two digs for CPCI. Brittany Juergens had five kills and seven blocks to lead Tri-Point. Ridgeview tops LeRoy Lindsey Johnson had 21 service points, including two aces, and Dusty Gleeson added 12 assists to lead Ridgeview to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-16 victory over LeRoy in HOIC action at LeRoy. Taylor Zimmerman added six kills for the Mustangs (6-16, 2-8) while Lauren Kellar had 21 assists. Jill Morgan had 12 service points, including six aces, six kills and three blocks to lead the Panthers (8-15, 0-10). Iroquois West wins in three Ariel Schroeder had six kills and Samantha Ishmiel added 16 digs to lead Iroquois West to a 17-25, 25-18, 25-22 victory in nonconference action at Milford. PBL bests Momence Jamie Garrell scored 11 service points, including three aces, and four digs to lead PBL to a 25-14, 25-17 win over Momence.
