PONTIAC — A man accused of robbing a Pontiac pet store was actually robbing his girlfriend in the process, court reports said.

Christopher Keever, 22, of Pontiac, was arrested Saturday evening after he demanded money from a cashier at P&P Aquarist and Pet, 830½ E. Livingston St. that afternoon, according to court reports available this week.

Keever was wearing dark clothes, a ski mask and was holding a butcher knife, reports said.

Initial reports from the cashier indicated that a male robber wearing a “snow mask” pointed a gun at her and demanded money. The cashier then said she put money from the register into a bag and gave it to the man.

After police pointed out inconsistencies in her reports, the cashier later admitted that it was her boyfriend, Keever, reports said. She said she realized it was him by recognizing his voice and the goatee under the ski mask.

She told officials she asked him not to do it, but Keever said that he was going to do it “his way,” and would also take the son they have together and give him the money, reports said.

Keever told his girlfriend to lie to police, reports said. He threatened that if she didn’t, he would take their child away when he got out of jail or he would have a friend do it, reports said.

The cashier then took money from the register, put it in a bag and gave it to Keever, reports said.

Keever faces charges of armed robbery, a Class X felony, and obstructing justice, a Class 4 felony. He remains in Livingston County Jail in lieu of posting $5,000. A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 24.

" Phychiatrist? Yeah; attacking their already financially deprived situation is bound to improve things. You sound like a politician. "

" Do you think any of the animals were traumatized by this incident? They have feelings also. I think that an animal phychiatrist needs to be brought in to evaluate each of the victims. I think the cost of this evaluation should be included in the fines of this terrible crime. "
