By Pantagraph staff
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Rene George’s goal at the 14:27 mark of the third period snapped a 4-all tie Wednesday night and lifted the Bloomington PrairieThunder to a 5-4 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets in the International Hockey League exhibition opener for both teams.
The Thunder trailed 2-0 after one period, but outscored Fort Wayne 4-1 in the second period. The Komets tied it at 4-all with a goal 54 seconds into the final period before George scored the game-winner off an assist from Scott Crawford.
Sam Ftorek scored twice in a span of 2:13 for Bloomington in the second period. Pascal Bedard and Sam Miller also found the net for the Thunder, while Bedard led in assists with two.
Jason Sessa had two goals for Fort Wayne, which outshot the Thunder, 30-23. Goalies Derek Dolson and Loic Lacasse each made 13 saves for Bloomington.
“It was a little sloppy at times. But the guys really competed tonight,” Thunder coach Derek Booth said. “I liked the attitude of the team to keep going and keep battling.
“We didn’t have any injuries, and I came out of it seeing a lot of players who exceeded my expectations.”
