5 years ago (2002): Megan Trimpe collected 19 assists and 10 service points to lead Normal Community’s volleyball team to a 15-8, 16-14 victory over Lincoln in a battle of Class AA area powers. NCHS improved to 22-1 with the win while Lincoln dropped to 19-3.
15 years ago (1992): Senior tailback Maury Parker ran for 170 yards on 32 carries as Illinois Wesleyan dumped Wheaton College, 33-19, in a CCIW football game both teams deemed crucial. The Titans, ranked No. 5 in the North Region of Division III, hiked their record to 4-0.
25 years ago (1982): Tim Swierz of Champaign and Pamela Sawin of Effingham were the men’s and women’s overall winners in the first Country Companies/Town of Normal 10-Mile Road Race. A total of 313 participants ran through the streets of Normal.
50 years ago (1957): Tony Jaskowiak scored three touchdowns to lead Trinity over University High, but the losers got a share of the glory at least for their brave fight after having all of their regular backs and several linemen sidelined by flu and star quarterback Marty O’Connor carried off with a knee injury.
