Tremont teenager arrested in blow-dart attacks
MORTON — A 15-year-old Tremont boy is accused of shooting two people with blowgun darts in Morton, police said Thursday. Pedestrians were shot at from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 4, police said. A girl, 12, was hit in the hand near Illinois and Monroe streets, police said. The dart, which went through a finger, was removed by doctors at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, police said. A woman, 24, was hit in the buttocks near Idlewood and Second streets by a similar dart, police said. She was treated at a medical clinic and released. The woman gave police a description of the vehicle. It was found later, and the boy was arrested Wednesday. Police said they learned the 15-year-old was a passenger in a car driven by a 17-year-old girl from East Peoria. A 16-year-old boy from Morton also was a passenger. The 15-year-old had a blowgun plus several darts with metal points and plastic soft tips when he got into the vehicle, police said. Police said they confiscated a blowgun and darts when the boy was arrested. The blowgun can be separated into two parts. Both boys were using blowgun parts to shoot darts from the moving vehicle, police said. The 16-year-old used the plastic-tip darts and didn’t shoot at people, police said. The 15-year-old was shooting at people with the metal-tip darts, police said. The victims apparently were chosen randomly, police said. The Tremont youth was released to his parents Wednesday afternoon after being charged as a juvenile with two counts of aggravated battery. |
