5 years ago (2002): Chad Bradshaw recorded four quarterback sacks to help Olympia High School’s football team spoil Central Catholic’s homecoming, 22-6. Nick Canopy and Chris McAndrew each intercepted a pass as Olympia defeated the Saints for the first time since 1993.
15 years ago (1992): Tied for fourth after two rounds, Illinois State’s men’s golf team overcame a six-stroke deficit and won the Bradley Invitational at Country Club of Peoria. Doug Schultz fired a 74 to highlight the Redbird resurgence.
25 years ago (1982): Freshman Troy Maddux led Woodland High School’s cross country team to a convincing victory in the highly regarded Columbus Day Invitational at Amboy. The Warriors scored 147 points to best the largest and highest quality Class A cross country gathering in the state.
50 years ago (1957): Lincoln High School made John Kopp’s 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter stand up for a 6-0 victory over Bloomington. Sophomore fullback Dave Shoemaker scored twice on long runs to help Chenoa beat Forrest-Strawn-Wing, 12-0.
