ISU roundup: Northover leads ISU women's soccer past UNI

Senior midfielder Yvonne Northover scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Illinois State soccer team to a 3-0 win over Northern Iowa in a Missouri Valley Conference match Friday at Waterloo, Iowa.
The Redbirds improved to 6-4-1 overall, 2-0-0 in the Valley. The Panthers fell to 4-6-2, 0-1-1.
Northover’s first goal came on a head-ball off a cross from Shannon Duggan 13 minutes into the game.
Ten minutes later, Northover and sophomore Ammanda Wisniewski worked a give-and-go with Northover on the finishing end.
Bethany Russ found the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half for her team-leading sixth goal of the season to cap the Redbirds’ scoring.
Men’s cross country second
Freshman Matt Mroczynski took second place individually with a time of 24 minutes, 41 seconds to lead Illinois State to a second-place team finish in the men’s 8-kilometer race at the Bradley Classic cross country meet at Peoria.
The Redbirds’ Scott Krapf (24:45) took fourth overall and teammate Jordan Anderson (24:48) finished fifth. Mike Richardson ran 25:04 to finish eighth for ISU.
Missouri took first place as a team and individually with Dan Hedgecock’s 24:35 effort leading the way.
Women take fourth
Senior Suzy Turner paced the Redbirds to a fourth-place finish with a time of 21:54 in the women’s 6K race at the Bradley Classic in Peoria.
Kellyn Johnson of Wichita State won in 20:44. The Shockers took second in the team standings. Missouri was first and Northwestern came in third. Missouri Valley member Northern Iowa finished fifth.
The Redbirds’ Kim Ebbesen (22:17) and Sarah Glowacki (22:19) finished 31st and 32nd , respectively.
