CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs’ tentative 2008 regular season schedule has the team opening and closing the season against the Milwaukee Brewers, management announced Thursday.

The Cubs will open the season at Wrigley Field for the first time since 2001, on March 31 against the Brewers. It will be their first-ever regular season game in Chicago in March. Their earliest previous home opener was April 1 against the San Diego Padres in 1996.

The Cubs’ last regular-season game is scheduled for Sept. 28 in Milwaukee.

The schedule features five interleague series, including the traditional home-and-home series against the Chicago White Sox, June 20-22 at Wrigley Field and June 27-29 at U.S. Cellular Field.

The Cubs will also host the Baltimore Orioles for the first time at Wrigley Field on June 24-26 and make their first-ever visit to Tampa Bay on June 17-19. They also meet the Blue Jays in Toronto June 13-15.

Chicago’s longest home stand will be a 10-game stretch May 9-18 against Arizona, San Diego and Pittsburgh, according to the tentative schedule.

" Good thing MLB took to heart the snowouts in Cleveland and other northern cities at the beginning of this season. Starting the season at Wrigley in March: bring your thermal undies! "

" I agree with Sox 05. Brewers are good for only 2 things. Producing that fine nectar of the gods that we call beer, and providing us with that entertaining sausage race during their home ballgames. "

" Brewers-Shmewers. It is still all about the Cubs-Cards and no one else in the NL Central matters. "

" It definitely isn't just Cubs fans who throw stuff on the field in anger or protest. I recall Cards fans at old Busch dumping several cups of beer on the Giants' Jeffrey Leonard as he played a ball in the outfield during the 87 NLCS. Granted, the guy was an arrogant @#** in that series with the whole one-flap down HR trot, but still Cards fans weren't able to resist from doing the same thing. "

" When that happened back at Wrigley in June, I told you guys that happens a lot at other places. People were actually throwing things from the upper deck! "

" Keep counting those Cards out - I love the underdog role. That's exactly what people did after the Cubs run in 2003 - and then they added Maddux and D. Lee in the offseason. People already were printing Cubs' World Series tickets for 04 before the season even started. But, then, from out of nowhere, those lowly Cardinals came on to win 205 games and run away with the division in 04 and 05. "Sneaking" up on teams again in 08 won't be that difficult in this mediocre division but, please, keep counting the Cardinals out - it makes it that much more fun. "

" The Rockies embarassed the D-backs. Scrubs, you should be happy that no you didn't make it that far, as they would have wiped the floor with you. 100 years!!! "

" Brewers are now the Cubs competition so that is why we are seeing this scheduling. Sorry Cards but you'll be fighting for 3rd place for the next 5 years or so. "

" Dude I saw those Arizona fans throwin trash on the field. I saw that happen and thought for a moment that that game was being played in Wrigley Field! "
