Public safety reprot for Oct. 13, 2007 IN COURTDrug possession — A Texas woman was sentenced to 24 months of probation for unlawful possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver. Edna Neal, 53, pleaded guilty to the charge related to an incident July 23. She also was ordered to perform 30 hours of community service work. Aggravated DUI — A Bloomington man was sentenced to 40 days in jail and 24 months of probation for aggravated driving under the influence. David Welchel, 30, of the 900 block of North Madison Street also was charged with a second count of aggravated DUI-third offense on April 29. The second DUI was dismissed as part of a plea agreement with the state. Retail theft — A man from Normal was sentenced to three years in prison for retail theft over $150. Donnell Biles, 46, of the 300 block of North Maple Street pleaded guilty to stealing a television from Wal-Mart in January. A second count of retail theft was dismissed. Biles also was ordered to serve one year of mandatory supervised release. He was given 38 days credit on his sentence for time served. Dismissed — Charges of aggravated DUI and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle were dismissed Oct. 11 by the state against a Bloomington man. David Bovey, 42, of the 1600 block of Illinois Avenue, was charged with the offenses after an August 2006 traffic stop. The charges were dismissed after the court granted a defense motion challenging the probable cause for the arrest. |
