Teachers’ strike likely to go on in McHenry County district
By Associated Press
RICHMOND — Students in Nippersink School District 2 could be out of classes for a second day on Monday.
About 140 teachers and staff in the McHenry County district went on strike late Thursday, canceling classes Friday.
About 1,600 students will remain out of class unless there is a settlement between teachers and administrators, but no negotiating sessions were scheduled over the weekend.
Teachers say they will strike until there is a deal. School officials say they understand the union wants more for its members but that there is a limit to taxpayer resources.
The main sticking point was a proposal by the district that teachers split the cost of any future increase in pension contributions. Previously, the district paid them.
