OTTAWA — A Springfield psychologist will examine a Seneca murder suspect to determine his sanity.

Keith Mackowiak, 34, is charged with using a shovel to beat to death Aloysius Twardowski, 84, and his wife, Catherine, 87, on July 12 in the den of their Seneca home.

He initially said he was guilty and did not want legal representation. He later changed his mind and is now represented by two public defenders.

His next court appearance will be Friday, after he is examined by the psychiatrist.
