IWU roundup: Volleyball wins Wartburg invite

WAVERLY, Iowa — The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team went 4-0 on Saturday to win the Wartburg Invitational.
The Titans defeated Simpson, 30-25, 29-31, 30-27, 30-26, in the morning session then defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 30-24, 30-27, 29-31, 30-23, to earn the championship.
IWU improves to 16-12 overall and resumes CCIW play Tuesday at North Central.
Women’s soccer falls at Augustana
Augustana scored a goal early in each half to defeat Illinois Wesleyan 2-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday at Rock Island.
Tessa Roberts scored for Augustana (10-3-1, 3-2) at the 1:15 mark of the opening period and added an assist ten minutes into the second half while Vikings goalie Keri Hess recorded nine saves to shut out the Titans.
Alli Novak had four saves in net for Illinois Wesleyan as the Titans fell to 6-7-1 overall and 2-3 in the CCIW. IWU outshot Augustana 19-10 for the game.
Titans 22nd, 21st at La Crosse
Lane Coonrod finished at a team-best 85th for the Titans at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational at La Crosse, Wis., covering the 8K course in 27 minutes, 31 seconds
IWU finished 22nd in team scoring. Wisconsin-La Crosse won the meet.
In the women’s meet, the Titans were 21st overall, led by Mary Ellen Barron’s 90th-place finish (24:11) on the 6K course. Minnesota won the meet.
