Vote set for Nov. 15 on soybean checkoff

BLOOMINGTON — Illinois soybean producers can vote on a soybean marketing referendum at their local Extension offices on Nov. 15.

Absentee ballots are available from the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

The proposed amendment would change the state soybean checkoff rate, which is currently suspended, from 1 cent per bushel assessed to 0.5 percent of the net selling price of each bushel assessed. This rate is the same rate that the national soybean checkoff program has used since 1991.

The proposed change in the state program would not go into effect unless the national program ceased.

For an absentee ballot, send a written request to: Director, Illinois Department of Agriculture, Attn: Bureau of Marketing and Promotion, State Fairgrounds, P.O. Box 19281, Springfield, Ill. 62794-9281. Absentee ballots must be received at the agriculture department by 5 p.m. Nov. 13.
