5 years ago (2002): Spurred on by a muskie club based in Bloomington, the Department of Natural Resources is moving ahead with a project to determine what strain of muskies will do best in Illinois. The Central Illinois Muskie Hunters helped raise $15,000 to get the 10-year project dubbed Project Green Genes underway.
15 years ago (1992): University High’s Dan Sullivan returned an interception 17 yards for a touchdown and later scored again when Kurt O’Connor hit him down the sideline for a 60-yard touchdown pass in the Pioneers’ 30-6 victory over Prairie Central.
25 years ago (1982): Junior Bill Wetzel led Central Catholic to third place in the Class A Boys State Golf Tournament. Tina Kohn and Amy Wetzel paced Central Catholic’s girls team to fourth place in the girls state golf tournament.
50 years ago (1957): Pontiac High School is losing football players in wholesale numbers because of the flu epidemic. Four players who missed last week’s game have returned but six other regulars have been stricken and coach Aubra Williamson fears the illness might claim even more of his squad. Only 22 players were at practice from a roster of 48.
