North Central dominated the final two games Tuesday night to capture a 30-26, 22-30, 30-21, 30-24 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin volleyball win over Illinois Wesleyan at Naperville.
The Titans (16-13, 2-3), who won the championship of the Wartburg Invitational last weekend, were led by Katie Butson’s 17 kills and 19 digs. Emily Hagen and Michele Malinowski added 15 and 13 kills, respectively, and Jenna Passananti had 44 assists.
Reed earns CCIW honor
IWU volleyball player Ashley Reed has been named the CCIW’s co-player of the week.
Reed, a senior libero from Lemont, was named to the all-tournament team of the Wartburg Invitational as she averaged 5.7 digs per game (17 games) in helping Illinois Wesleyan to the title of the eight-team event. Reed shared the honor with Carthage senior outside hitter Ashley Kuehl.
Heim named first-team all-CCIW
Illinois Wesleyan junior Allison Heim has been named to the all-league tennis squad by the CCIW.
Heim is a repeater on the first team, while senior Sarah Rusch was selected for the second team.
Heim, who was a second-team all-CCIW selection in 2005, was 12-4 overall this season and 5-1 against CCIW opponents. Rusch was 6-6 at No. 2 singles and 3-3 vs. league foes. As a doubles team Heim/Rusch were 8-4 at No. 1 and 4-2 against the league.
Wheaton’s Jordan Hook was named player of the year, and her coach, Jane Nelson, received the coach of the year award.
