Pontiac looking for management for Livingston Manor

PONTIAC -- Four to six companies are currently in negotiations with a consulting group hired by Livingston County in seeking the operation of a nursing home.

Livingston County currently owns and operates the nursing home Livingston Manor.

The 122-bed home had only 57 residents last month and is projected to lose a half-million dollars this year.

A consulting firm is reviewing the pending proposals. A decision by the County Board could be made by Jan. 1.

County nursing home chairman Arnold Natzke updated the board Thursday.

Andrew Cutler, vice president of FR&R Business Acquisitions, said the consulting firm has been following the timeline set by the county board.

“We have received proposals from various entities and we are currently in the review state,” Cutler said. “Initially, there were about a dozen groups in the project but now we are currently working with four to six.”

Cutler would not say what businesses were interested, but said some were nursing home organizations. He would not comment on where the businesses are located.

Livingston County wants to partner with a group or business to ultimately remove the county from the manor’s operation and long-term financial commitments. The request for proposals says the new partner will need to ensure an adequate number of beds, including a portion of Medicaid beds, to care for county residents. The partner also must agree to erect a nursing home in Pontiac, using the purchased or transferred license of Livingston Manor.

The county is willing to make a financial commitment by using money collected from the landfill host-county agreement with Allied Waste Industries, an estimated $23 million.

" why doesnt the county board members go out to livingston manor and look all the residents in the eyes and tell them exactly why they do not want to have a county run home anymore. Maybe they could explain to them why they do not want to take care of the men and women who have given to the county for all their lives.Remember,we all get old and not everyone is wealthy. "

" Does this mean?? The county is willing to make a financial commitment for the project. Please Arnold or Bill define what this means to the county. This is sickening if the county dumps more than a few million into this place for someone to take over. If they build and then give away the building look out for a revolt. This place has been losing money for sometime and it is past time to rid the county of this financial repsonsibility. "
