Car rolls over into field off Six Points Road
By Pantagraph staff
BLOOMINGTON -- Two teenage boys were treated for minor injuries following a single-car rollover crash late Wednesday afternoon west of Bloomington.
A white four-door coupe ended up in a plowed field along McLean County 1200 North Road, also known as Six Points Road, about one-eighth of a mile west of McLean County 1000 East Road. Sheriff’s deputies and fire officials briefly blocked traffic in both directions.
The driver, Gage Pichon, 16, of the 1500 block of Julie Drive, Bloomington, was heading west when he swerved to miss a dead animal in the road, lost control of the car and collided with a telephone pole about 3 p.m., said McLean County Detective Joe Zoeller. It wasn’t immediately known how many times the car rolled, he said.
The car’s driver was walking near the car and his passenger appeared to be talking. Both were placed on stretchers and loaded into ambulances.
The telephone pole was knocked down and Corn Belt Energy Corp. workers were on the scene. None of the lines were touching the ground, but one was pinned near the ground by the downed pole and its cross arm.
Both Pichon and a passenger, Dillon Overman, of the same address, were treated at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center and released, a nursing supervisor said Wednesday night.
Two of the car’s wheels were broken loose from the vehicle, and one was about 70 yards away from the car.
