Blagojevich aide leaving; may run for congress
SPRINGFIELD -- Another top aide to Gov. Rod Blagojevich is leaving the administration.
Jill Morgenthaler, who is the governor’s deputy chief of staff for public safety, is apparently mulling a bid for Congress in Illinois 6th Congressional District.
The governor’s office said Wednesday that Morgenthaler, of Des Plaines, submitted her resignation on Tuesday, effective Nov. 1.
The 6th District seat is currently held by first-term Republican Peter Roskam, a former state senator from Wheaton.
Morgenthaler, 53, is a retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel who joined the administration in December 2005. She was paid $125,400 to oversee homeland security issues for the governor.
“The Governor thanks Col. Morganthaler for her service to the state and wishes her well,” Blagojevich spokeswoman Rebecca Rausch said Wednesday.
Morgenthaler’s departure is the latest in recent weeks. Other top officials who have left in the first year of the governor’s second term include Becky Carroll, a top budget office aide who is now working on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and Department of Public Health Director Eric Whitaker.
