Titan roundup: Lopez nets hat trick for men’s soccer

Illinois Wesleyan’s Jason Lopez recorded a hat trick in a 6-0 victory over North Central Wednesday night in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin soccer match at Bloomington.

Lopez netted the first two Titan goals within the first six minutes. His last score came with six minutes left in the match as the Titans improved to 4-10 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW. North Central fell to 3-10-1 and 0-4-1.

Other IWU goals were by John Blodgett, Ikenna Odinaka and Tim Johnson.

The Titans outshot the Cardinals, 24-5.

Women defeat North Central

Caroline Leighton scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Titans to a 5-2 win over CCIW foe North Central in Bloomington.

Emily Marcheschi came off the bench to score and put IWU (7-7-1, 3-3) ahead 3-1 at halftime.

Elizabeth Sinclair and Tina Rodriguez accounted for the Titans’ second-half scoring.

The Cardinals (4-9-1, 0-5-0) got goals from Laura Peterson and Brittany Jones.
