A brief preview of ISU volleyball’s game at Missouri State ISU vs. Missouri StateSite: Hammons Student Center, Springfield, Mo. Time: 7 p.m. today ISU vs. Wichita State Site: Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, Kan. Time: 7 p.m. Saturday Records: ISU 14-6, 6-3; Missouri State 19-3, 8-1; Wichita State 17-4, 8-1 (prior to facing Indiana State today). Coaches: Melissa Stokes is 264-117 in 12 years at Missouri State. Chris Lamb is 153-82 in eight years at Wichita State. Sharon Dingman is 138-93 in eight years at Illinois State. ISU injuries: Freshman reserve Jagoda Pstras has been nursing a sore back. What to watch for -- ISU will attempt to duplicate its 2006 road-trip sweep of Missouri State and Wichita State, a feat no Valley team had managed since 2002. The Bears and Shockers are Valley co-leaders, one win ahead of third-place Creighton (13-7, 7-2). ISU shares fourth with Northern Iowa (12-9, 6-3). -- Missouri State and Wichita State both beat ISU at Redbird Arena last month, the Bears, 3-1, and the Shockers, 3-0. The Bears are led by Jamie Adams, who ranks fifth in the Valley in kills per game (3.72) WSU’s Emily Stockman leads the league in kills per game (4.26) and aces (0.45). -- The Redbirds lead the league in aces per game at 1.73 with Peggy Riessen (0.34) and Mallory Leggett (0.32) leading the way. M.C. Richmond ranks third in the league with 3.83 kills per game while Erin Lindsey ranks second in assists (12.23) behind WSU’s Abby Harsh (12.53). Points of interest -- Missouri State has won eight of the past 10 matches with ISU to cut its all-time series deficit to 36-33. WSU, which is on a 10-match winning streak, has won 9 of the last 11 meetings with ISU to cut its series deficit to 28-14. -- ISU’s nine remaining matches include six at home. The Redbirds rank third in the league in kills per game (15.76) while Missouri State is second (15.89) and Wichita State fourth (15.65). Talking the talk “That road trip can be won. A lot of Valley teams I think were excited (when ISU won at Missouri State and WSU last year) because nobody had done it in a long time.” – ISU coach Sharon Dingman. “I think right now, us, Missouri State and Wichita State are playing as well as anybody in the league is. If we lose both now, we’re at five (Valley losses) and I don’t think there’s a way to come back and win the Valley.” Compiled by Randy Sharer Get area high school sports scores and statistics at Varsity Sports. |
