ISU roundup: Bears sweep season volleyball set from Redbirds
By Pantagraph staff
M.C. Richmond tallied her 19th double-digit kill effort of the season, but Illinois State’s volleyball team suffered its fourth three-game sweep of the season as first-place Missouri State knocked off the Redbirds 30-20, 30-24, 30-24 Friday night at the Hammons Student Center in Springfield, Mo.
The loss snapped the Redbirds’ four-match winning streak.
ISU falls to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears are 20-3, 9-1.
ISU was led by Richmond and Peggy Riessen, who tallied 11 kills each. Erin Lindsey finished with 38 assists, and Kasey Mollerus contributed a team-high 22 digs.
“We just weren’t a very good volleyball team tonight at times,” ISU coach Sharon Dingman said. “We have to turn around and focus on our match against Wichita State (today). They are arguably playing better than anyone else in the Valley right now, so we have to be ready, and not let this match affect us mentally.”
ISU plays at Wichita State at 7:05 p.m. today.
Miller, Parke-Bedard dropped by Irish
Illinois State seniors Katri Miller and Veronique Parke-Bedard lost 8-4 to No. 9-seeded Notre Dame’s Kali Krisik and Colleen Reilly on the second day of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The loss eliminated the Redbirds from the doubles draw.
Miller will play at noon today in the singles draw against Michigan State’s Stephanie Kebler.
