BLOOMINGTON — The 25-year-old driver of a sports car was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after hitting a pedestrian and crashing through the brick wall of a tavern’s patio early Sunday, police said.

Nicholas Sherrill, of the 1700 block of Rockingham Drive, was driving north on East Street just before 2 a.m. closing time and crashed into the back patio at Mulligan’s, 531 N. Main St., Bloomington, a police report said. The car went over the curb, hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk and crashed into the patio, police said.

The pedestrian was treated and released from a hospital, and a 22-year-old woman in the car did not seek medical attention. A section of the damaged wall was missing Monday night and the metal fence above was bent.

Sherrill posted $100 and his driver’s license and was released from McLean County Jail on Sunday, records said.

" There is nothing wrong with having more than one drink. DRIVING after drinking is stupid. Catching a cab/ride or drinking a few at home is the adult thing to do. Too bad not everyone old enough to drink is an adult. "

" They already tried to ban alcohol. Alcohol prohibition, like marijuana prohibition, was a complete failure. Alcohol prohibition allowed organized crime to thrive and caused political corruption and violence to skyrocket. The same thing is happening with the so-called “war on drugs” except Mexican gangs and politicians are profiting, resulting in thousands of illegal immigrants streaming across the border to escape the poverty created in its wake. Anyone who advocates the continued legal status of alcohol should also advocate the legalization of marijuana. "

" Alcohol DIRECTLY causes very few deaths, PEOPLE cause deaths. I like to drink and sometimes have quite a few (mostly at home). But when I do drink, I do not drive. So I'm offended to be called stupid, I actually make pretty sound decisions. And I will continue to drink as long as a I choose to do so. "

" It is time to ban alcohol how many deaths can be directly attributed to alcohol, a day? Yet a cold formula that has resulted in 6 deaths in the last 20 years is pulled from the shelves of stores, where is the equality. This nation has gone stupid and WE ARE ALL the reason why it is the way it is, it's called stupidity and ALCOHOLISM...... "

" Maybe Ken was drunk when he wrote it. Try reading it in a Barney (from the Simpsons) voice. Much funnier. One good thing about alcohol is that it provides thousands of jobs to the people who work in breweries, distilleries, rehabs, law offices, bars, restaurants, brothels, drunk tanks, etc... "

" Not only do red wines contain anti-oxidants which has been pointed out, but if you have 3-5 drinks per week it also lowers your chance for heart disease and strokes by 33%. Now ask about the benefits of Marijuanna. The one plant that would greatly benefit the world yet the USA has continued prohibition for over 20 years. "

" It is really a shame that we have to tear apart another person "Ken" just to do something. Ken was just trying to speak his mind and obviously doesn't have the same grammer skills that some do. Also I feel bad for Brenstalka. What a sad excistance that you need alcohol to deal with everyday life. You know there are other fixes that are healthier??? "

" Ken- Could you maybe make sentences? And learn the difference between "feel" and "fill", as well as the distinction between "sell" and "sale"? Other than being opposed to alcohol consumption, I really can't tell what you are trying to say in your post. Some basic English grammar would be of assistance here. "

Brenstalka To Ken wrote on Oct 23, 2007 9:03 AM:

" First off, I had to read your post four times to figure out what you were saying. You're grammer are suckish. You asked for one good thing about alcohol, so I'll give you two. First, without alcohol, I wouldn't be able to tolerate my wife, kids, and job. I can't stand any of them, and being inebriated makes them somewhat tolerable. Secondly, I've built up a huge tolerance so that if anyone needs a designated driver at the bar, I'd still be able to drive after 12-15 drinks. My drinking is for everyone else's safety. "
