Bowling notes: Seven inducted into Bloomington Hall of Fame

BLOOMINGTON -- Three women were inducted into the Bloomington USBC WBA Hall of Fame and four men were inducted into the Pat Harkins/Bloomington USBC BA Hall o f Fame during a ceremony Oct. 13 at the Moose Lodge in Bloomington.

Inductees were:

-- Betty J. Ploense — Ploense, who passed away earlier this year, bowled in more than 20 national tournaments, as well as many state and local tournaments. She had served as league secretary and league president.

-- Mickey Schofield — Schofield was recognized for her service and promotion of bowling as a Bloomington BWBA member. For more than 40 years, he has shared her love of bowling in countless leagues in Bloomington and LeRoy.

-- Carol Sieg — Sieg’s high series of 660 and highest league average of 172 are among her many bowling accomplishments. She was a member of the Marben’s team which won both the actual and handicap championship of the BWBA Tournament several times.

-- Harold J. Hartnady — Hartnady owned and operated LeRoy Lanes from 1961 to 1972. He was instrumental in starting both the men’s and women’s travel bowling leagues throughout the area, as well as youth bowling leagues at his lanes.

-- Glenn Allen Schenck — Schenck started in the sport at 15. Schenck has honor scores with six different associations, has had eight scratch singles titles and has won the Bloomington Men’s City Tournament for team, singles, doubles and all events. He has had nine 300 games and 12 800 series, with his highest being 835.

-- Albert Stachurski — Stachurski, who carries as 214 average and has bowled one 300 game. He has been on many teams who have been league champions and has served as league officer.

-- Jeffrey E. Jeakins — Since the late ’70s, Jeakins has served numerous times as a league officer. He has bowled in the ABC Nationals several times and has also worked and bowled in the IBA state tournaments.

-- Senior tournament winners at Circle Lanes: Class D men – Glenn Schenck 725, Michael Barth 708; Class C men – Dan Shickle 713; Class B men – Bud Lawyer 695; Class A men – Elton Gee 736, Don Peterson 686; Class D women – Brenda Baker 733, Paulette Latta 714; Class C women – Sandra Bobst 782, Judy Van Note 679; Class B women – Ina Bradford 656; Class A women – Margey Bateman 694, Helen Gee 693; Sandy Bobst rolled 146 over average (series).

-- Ashley Hornickel placed third in the Illinois State Youth Leaders Scholarship Tournament on Oct. 13 in Canton.

-- In the Sunday Adult-Child League at Pheasant Lanes, Hope Montes rolled a 201, her first 200 game.

-- At Pheasant Lanes the following split conversions were reported: Mickey Laskowski 4-6-10, Margo Slingerland 5-7, Linda Davis 5-7, Jerry Martoglio 5-7.

-- At Twin City Lanes, the following split conversions were reported: Bob Husseman 2-10.
