Booras returns to Thunder
BLOOMINGTON -- Jon Booras, who played in 73 of the Bloomington PrairieThunder’s 76 games last season, signed a one-year contract Tuesday to return to the team. “It’s good to be back in Bloomington,” said Booras, 24. “My wife and I really like the town. The fans are great, and the atmosphere at the coliseum is great.” Booras became available after being released by the ECHL’s Mississippi Seawolves a day ahead of the season opener. Booras had 16 goals and 24 assists last season with Bloomington, including 14 points over the team’s last 18 games. “We’re very happy to have a player of Jon’s caliber back with us,” PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth said. “He really contributed at the end of last year, and we are looking for that type of contribution on a more consistent basis throughout the entire season.” Booras, who worked out with the PrairieThunder on Tuesday, said he senses a changed atmosphere in the locker room from a season ago. “Everyone is excited to be here and that gets me excited,” he said. “I’m looking forward to playing with the veterans on this team. I hope to play a bigger role and contribute on a more consistent basis.” Booras becomes the fifth player to return from last season’s roster. To make room on the 19-man active roster, right wing John Wheaton was waived. Laylin adds to Thunder honors With Cory Laylin being named defenseman of the week and Don Parsons named forward of the week, the PrairieThunder has equaled last season’s total for such weekly honors. Laylin scored a power-play goal, had two assists and a plus-1 rating in Bloomington’s season-opening win at Flint.
