BLOOMINGTON — Illinois Wesleyan let a big lead slip away in the first game as Augustana took a 34-32, 30-20, 30-28 victory in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin volleyball match Tuesday night at Shirk Center.

The loss dropped IWU to 17-14 overall and 3-4 in the CCIW. The Titans will play at North Central in a CCIW Tournament play-in game next Tuesday.

“It’s unfortunate,” said IWU coach Kim Nelson-Brown. “In the first game we had a 10- point lead and could not capitalize. We had mental breakdowns serving and receiving. We had 10 service and 10 receiving errors.”

Michele Malinowski led IWU with 17 kills, while Katie Butson added 10. Butson also had 19 digs. Jenna Passananti contributed 40 assists.

Augustana improved to 17-11 overall and 6-1 in the CCIW, good for second place behind Carthage.
