Vocational leader takes another job

STREATOR — Jeffrey Dean of Streator Unlimited, a vocational and housing program for developmentally disabled adults, has accepted a similar job in Princeton after 13 years as executive director.

Dean will be the president of Gateway Services. His last day in Streator will be Dec. 14. Before becoming head of Streator Unlimited, Dean worked in a variety of management positions at the agency. He worked at a Jacksonville facility before 1985.

Legislators try jobs as principal

MACKINAW — State Rep. Keith Sommer, a Mackinaw Republican, will be “Principal for a Day” at Dee-Mack Intermediate School on Thursday as part of the new “Illinois Principals Association Principal for a Day Program.”

This first-time event runs through Nov. 16.

Unit 5 sets meeting for spending study

NORMAL — The Unit 5 school district will host a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 to release findings from a study on whether to spend about $100 million on buildings and renovations to meet growing enrollment.

The meeting at Oakdale Elementary School, 601 N. Adelaide St., will include projected budgets for two new elementary schools, renovations to existing elementary schools, additions to Sugar Creek Elementary School and a new middle school.

Following the presentation, small group discussions will be led by members of the board of education.

Chili, brat dinner planned Saturday

BLOOMINGTON — The Prairie Aviation Museum will hold a chili and brat dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Challenger Learning Center.

Tickets are $8 for adults; $5 for children ages 6 to 11; and by donation for children under 5.

Car seat check-ups planned for Nov. 3

NORMAL — Safe Kids McLean County and the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety will have safety specialists available to examine car seats from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 3, at Rebbec Pontiac-Buick, 302 Landmark Drive.

The seats will be examined for correct use and installation free of charge. Call (309) 828-1892 to schedule an appointment. Drive-ups are welcome.

Local Pipeline
— McLean County has agreed to file a petition to intervene in the Enbridge Inc. pipeline application. The petition will allow the county to receive all documents in the case and then decide whether to oppose it, support it, or remain neutral. A headline in Monday’s Pantagraph incorrectly stated the county’s intention to contest the pipeline application.

Accident location — A rural Flanagan woman was killed in an accident Friday afternoon along Livingston County 1900 North Road just east of 300 East Road. The location was incorrect in Sunday’s Pantagraph.
