United Way hoping for a record year by Dec. 31

BLOOMINGTON -- It’s third down and goal for United Way of McLean County’s annual fundraising campaign.

“We’re still very confident that we can hit our goal,” said United Way President Greg Cott. “We have five weeks left and $1 million that we need to find and bring in.”

United Way announced Tuesday that its fall campaign -- which began Aug. 29 -- has raised $3,405,712, or 76 percent of United Way’s $4,480,480 goal.

With the campaign ending Dec. 31, United Way volunteers and staff have five weeks to raise $1,074,768.

Cott said the campaign is going well. Some companies have not completed their United Way fundraising, and some traditional individual donors have not yet made their pledges.

But a United Way statement said that it will take the entire community pulling together to raise the money needed to support United Way-funded programs focused on successful children, strong families, self-sufficient people and a healthy community.

The campaign is entering its follow-up phase, with volunteers and staff following up with traditional donors who have not yet pledged this year, Cott said.

Anyone who wishes to give to this year’s campaign may do so at www.uwaymc.org or by calling (309) 828-7383.

If $4,480,480 is raised, that would be a record high and 4.9 percent more than the $4,270,250 raised last year.

This year, donations to United Way are helping to fund 46 programs at 29 local social service agencies, including Western Avenue Community Center, Heartland Head Start, Project Oz, The Children’s Foundation, The Salvation Army and Peace Meal. Programs help children and families in need, people with disabilities, the elderly, the homeless and people in need of health care.
