Warm memories return for fan of 1982 Saints
Advertisement

Thanks for the articles on the Eyres (``In Dad's cleat marks,'' Nov. 22, Page B1) and the Moews family (``A football mom who relishes being in the game,'' Nov. 21, Page B1), and the Central Catholic state champs of 1982. Oh the memories.

I remember that season well - through what we thought would be a short season, hot, cold, winning when we didn't know how those ``little kids'' of ours could possible beat those ``big guys'' on the other teams. What wonderful memories.

You forget the cold and the mud and the long drives all over the state. You remember only the wonderful day about 5 p.m. at Hancock Stadium! Heart! They had so much heart and faith when the game was on the line the Saints of 1982 got it done!

The Saints of 2007 will remember it the rest of their lives, and so will their families. Go Saints!

" So if BCC would have beaten Driscoll 48-24 would you be calling them winners as well? I think not. "

" "All I could do was sit back and laugh as these "parents" and BCC alum were trying to use the backs of children to reconstitute their pathetic lives. " Wow. You are truly sad. I support MY CCHS STUDENTS and cheer for them when they succeed, whether it be on the field or in the classroom. Get a clue. "

" So "holding your own" is getting beat 48-24? That is a new one to me. When the other team outscores you by more than three touchdowns, you are hardly holding your own. I was watching the game and the crowd went nuts when BCC scored the first seven points. Then Driscoll scored the next 21, crowd was not so happy. All I could do was sit back and laugh as these "parents" and BCC alum were trying to use the backs of children to reconstitute their pathetic lives. "

" The Saints played a hard game, and they held there own but they could not hole Driscoll and they lost . It was a good game and both teams played a great game. "

" Ohhhh, man I wish I could go back in time. I'd take state. How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?... Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. "

" Are you that unhappy in your own life that all you can do it say stupid negative comments. I fell sorry for you and your pathetic life. "

" Funny person, Anchor. You stay over there with the losers and has beens talking about how it could have been. I will be over here living in the now and reality. See ya at the Saints next win if i live that long. Naw, I will just wait to see them lose and feast on your tears... "

" You can always tell how desperate some one's life is by their need to 'pee' on things just to make themselves feel clever and witty. Signed, Anchor "

" What that '82 Central team meant for that school and this community will never be matched again. Back then, it was a lot smaller community and people felt a little closer to the team. It was certainly a proud moment for that school and the whole community that obviously still means a lot today. "

" "May have lost the championship?" No, they DID lose the championship. It just irks me how this is supposed the pinnacle of their lives like 1982 was for the author. Why not one of the years they went 0-12. Something that would have taught them how to be good losers instead of the "everyone gets an A for effort mentality" Something that taught them they need to work a little harder, and not living in the past, "back in 82, I could throw a football a quarter mile." "

" The Saints may have lost the Championship game, but they played a great game and a great team and they held their own. and as far as how pathetic a persons life is, how pathatic must yours be to write that comment. The Saints had a GREAT season and should be very proud of it. The wrier is right those boys will remember the feeling of have a 13-1 Season for the rest of there lives, Be Proud boys you had a Great Season!!!!!!!! "
