B-N Singer gets boot on 'Idol'

BLOOMINGTON -- Luke Menard, member of the Bloomington based a cappella group Chapter 6, was forced to go-go from “American Idol” Thursday night.

His version of the 1980s Wham! tune “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” on Tuesday’s show did not win him enough votes from the public to qualify him to stay on the show. The Fox program winnowed out two men and two women Thursday, leaving 12 competitors for next week’s sing-off.

Judge Simon Cowell said he liked nothing about Menard’s performance Tuesday, but characteristically, host Ryan Seacrest and judge Paula Abdul were kinder.

“This is a guy who’s not going back to cleaning carpets,” Seacrest said after announcing that Menard was being eliminated. Seacrest was referring to one of the jobs Menard held before performing full time with Chapter 6.

Abdul agreed. “This is only the first day of your career,” she told the Crawfordsville, Ind. native, before dancing to his farewell performance of the Wham! song.

Menard, 29, performed Queen’s “Killer Queen” and “Everybody’s Talkin’” by Harry Nilsson in previous weeks.

Danny Noriega, Kady Malloy and Asia’h Epperson were also eliminated.

" To Floyd: Dude, they aren't saying he is from B/N! They said he's a member of the B/N based group Chapter 6, which indeed that group is based out of B/N. "

" I loved Danny! He was entertaining thats for sure. And he did have a good voice.
Luke on the other hand could not sing but he looks like orlando bloom from Pirates of the carribean! Maybe he should try acting? "

" LOL-I secretly want to sleep w/ him too, as long as he doesn't sing to me. "

" We were sad to see Danny go. He might not have been uh, a mans man but as a potential entertainer he had the other kids beat and his voice was really quite amazing if you didn't let the youthful inexperience get you down. Give him five more years and a chance to grow out of the stereotypes he is hiding behind and I think you will see quite the talent. "

" Yeah, sadly Luke wasn't up to par with the rest of the contestants.

Not even Paula blatantly wanting to sleep with him could keep him on the show. :) "

" When will they quit referencing this guy to being a B/N person? He's not. "

" I would have liked to see Luke go a little while longer, but thats how the show goes. I'd say that considering the talent that still remaining, America got it right last night. Especially with Danny Noriega. Let him take his head bobbing, finger snapping, Diva attitude somewhere else. "

" Not a huge WHAM fan, but I thought the guy was pretty good. It would have been a travesty if that Danny Noriega had continued to stay on the show. I was afraid we were going to have another Sanjaya like last year where it was a joke! "

" Good, he was horrible singing that George Michael song.
also, good to see that Noriega kid gone. Not only did he have a horrible name, he was also too flamboyant, and over the top. I think he should have been singing on Wednesdays with the girls.
sad to see Kady malloy go though, she was the last of the eye candy.
