Ex-NCHS coach Venerable to be inducted into state coaches' hall

Former Normal Community High School coach Hud Venerable will be inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on April 5 in Champaign.

Venerable will be among 17 coaches inducted in conjunction with the association’s annual spring clinic. The inductees will be honored in a noon banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn, with University of Illinois coach Ron Zook serving as guest speaker.

Venerable resigned in December after leading NCHS to a 126-37 record in 14 seasons. The run was highlighted by the Class 6A state championship in 2006, a 6A runner-up finish in 2005, seven Big 12 Conference championships and 13 playoff berths.

His 210-76 career record includes six years at Jacksonville, five at Monticello and one at Rich South before taking over at NCHS in 1994.

“I’m very humbled by it,” said Venerable, a University High School and Illinois Wesleyan graduate. “I’ve just been fortunate to have great mentors and role models who guided me into athletics and then into the profession.

“It’s a people-oriented business, and I’ve been fortunate to be associated with hundreds and hundreds of great people.”
