Women, boy injured after being hit with shotgun pellets
BLOOMINGTON — A man fired a shotgun loaded with bird shot at a 17-year-old boy, three women and an infant Sunday evening, hitting the boy and two women, police said. A 35-year-old woman, Thyesha Jenkins was taken to BroMenn Regional Medical Center with one pellet in each calf and a second woman had a welt on her right side following the attack about 5:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Western Avenue, said Bloomington Police spokesman Duane Moss. Dcamron King, 17, of the 1600 block of West Olive Street, walked into BroMenn on his own that night, but Moss said he did not know the nature of the boy’s injuries. Two men, ages 18 and 21, were arrested shortly after the shooting, Moss said, but the men were not formally charged with any crimes Monday. Both Jenkins, who lives in the block where the shooting occurred, and King were treated and released from BroMenn, a hospital official said. The injured women, another woman and a 1-year-old child were leaving a housing complex to go fishing when they saw a white sedan turn from Western Avenue onto Forrest Street, Moss said. The 17-year-old was nearby, he said. Moss said Jenkins “said one of the guys in a black tank top grabbed a shotgun and fired the weapon twice in her direction.” The men drove away, but an officer responding to the shooting saw the car and pulled the men over near the intersection of Morris Avenue and Locust Street, Moss said. Two men were arrested and there were two 15-year-old boys in the car, he said. Moss said he had no indication why the shooting occurred. |
