Rain stays away, Sheppard Jr. takes Farmer City feature
FARMER CITY — Steve Sheppard Jr. of New Berlin won the late model feature stockcar race Friday night at Farmer City Raceway where action had been rained out for three straight weeks. Fairbury’s Wes Steidinger, the top qualifier among 34 cars at 12.456 seconds, placed second followed by Carpentersville’s Dennis Erb Jr., El Paso’s Ryan Unzicker and Orland Park’s Frank Heckenhast Jr. Bloomington’s Jason Feger started from the pole and led for two laps before pulling off with a mechanical problem. Sheppard led unchallenged the rest of the way. The heat winners were Feger, Pontiac’s Derek Chandler, Unzicker and Sheppard. The semi feature winners were El Paso’s Joe Harland and Towanda’s Donny Walden. Buffalo’s Jeff Leka won the feature for modifieds, topping Ashmore’s Danny Schwartz. Kankakee’s Denny Schwartz took third followed by Denny Schwartz and Gabe Menser, both of Ashmore. Menser was the top qualifier among 30 drivers. Winning the semi feature was Springfield’s Wes O’Dell. The heat winners for modifieds were Danny Schwartz, Eric Bruce, Jeff Curl of Forrest and Leka. In the sportsman class, Dwight’s Joel Funk won the feature ahead of Pontiac’s Rick Roedel. O’Dell took third, El Paso’s Jason Unzicker fourth and Monticello’s Timmy Dick fifth. Funk and O’Dell were heat winners along with John Barnard. The street stock feature went to Farmer City’s Jim Quinn. Lincoln’s Terry Miller was second followed by Cerro Gordo’s Troy Dodson, Charleston’s Josh Griffith and Oakley’s Blake Shelly. Tonica’s Gary Schmitt and Quinn were heat winners. The hornet feature race was won by Decatur’s Joe Reed ahead of LeRoy’s Stacy Whitehouse, Mansfield’s Chris Burton, Daniel Flessner and Normal’s David Lauritson. Reed and Josh Jones were heat winners. |
