NORMAL -- Police are still investigating what happened to a Normal man who was injured outside his mobile home last week after being dropped off by a taxicab.

Patrick Niles, 23, was discharged from a Normal hospital Friday, one day after he was found unconscious in the early morning hours by a newspaper carrier in his driveway in the 1900 block of Kennedy Lane in The Landings mobile home park.

Niles had cuts, scrapes and contusions when he was found, Normal police Lt. Mark Kotte said Saturday, declining to release more information due to medical privacy law. But a cab driver who took Niles home from downtown Bloomington and another location told police he was not injured when he left the cab.

Police are unsure whether someone assaulted Niles or whether the injuries were an accident, perhaps the result of a fall, Kotte said. Niles told police he was heavily intoxicated at the time and hasn’t been able to remember much about what happened, Kotte said.

Police reports do not indicate anything was stolen from Niles, he said.

The case is being handled by Normal detectives, Kotte said.
