ISU forward Bobby Hill to have knee surgery
NORMAL -- Bobby Hill’s return to the Illinois State basketball program has come to a temporary stop and it has nothing to do with the NCAA. Hill will need surgery on his right knee after suffering an injury during a pick-up game last week at Horton Field House’s North Gym. ISU basketball coach Tim Jankovich said Tuesday he expects Hill, who is attending summer school, will be ready for the start of the season in November. The surgery will be performed sometime in mid-June when swelling in the knee goes down. Hill, a 6-foot-6 forward, played as a freshman for the Redbirds in the 2006-07 season and started eight games. He transferred to Lincoln College last year to improve his academic standing and earned junior college Division II all-American honors after averaging 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds. ISU still is waiting to hear from the NCAA about any problems with Hill’s eligibility. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported in February that Hill and his brother, Johnny, were put up in an apartment by their coach at St. Louis Vashon High School, Floyd Irons, from 2002 to 2006. Irons reportedly spent more than $25,000 for the St. Louis apartment, food, clothing and a housekeeper for the Hill brothers, who had been living in Alton with their father. ISU investigated the matter and submitted its findings and recommendations to the NCAA earlier this month. The next step is for the NCAA to determine any possible penalties, which ISU can appeal.
