Concerts fill Central Illinois stages this summer
Advertisement

In last week's GO!, we previewed a summer's worth of festivals, fairs and theater. This week, it's music's turn, baby -- not to mention comedy or any other type of entertainment offered in a concert setting.

It being summer and all, the bulk of these settings will be under that wide-open canopy of nature known as the sky.

The al fresco events range from The Pantagraph's own Nothin' But The Blues Festival to WGLT's annual downtown Bloomington concert to ISU's venerable Concerts on the Quad series.

For those who prefer more climate-controlled circumstances, venues like the Peoria Civic Center, the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, ISU's Braden Auditorium and Champaign's Virginia Theater are still coming through for us with air-cooled presentations.

Though additions will doubtless be made in the weeks ahead, we can guarantee that the following schedule of area musical events is the most complete you'll find anywhere hereabouts.

For up-to-the-minute additions, consult GO!'s weekly Music Calendar.

" Now wait a minute...I'm not over 40, haven't even hit 40 yet. I'm 33 and would see a wide variety of these artists. Yes, even Weird Al because some of his parodies are down right hilarious. Poison, Boston, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, yep I'd see them all. "

" bigman, I'm in the over 40 crowd.....Big AL..I wouldn't then and definately won't pay money to see him now, but still hear that voice because my kids (13-22) think he is just it ..... after they are done listening to Slipknot...Mudvayne...House of Pain...ICP...and Drowing Pool....Puddle of Mudd (last two I would be happy to pay money to see, thank you cub)....so I guess I would want you to understand that not all of the 40+ crowd wants or cares about country or "old" rock and like you a big share of us will choose not to go but instead listen to what we want on MP3. "

" To those who bemoan the lack of under 40 music, one of the reasons is the current big time acts want quite a lot of money to perform (can't blame them, strike while the iron is hot). Another reason is what Cthulu is speaking to, the over 40 crowd has money.

If you really want to see fresh new music, check out Myspace. A lot of bands are doing it themselves (DIY shows). Sort of punk music/garage bands for the 2000's. "

" bigman, it's because what's played on the so-called rock stations for the sub-40 crowd is whiny emo crap. No one wants to pay to hear that garbage. In fact, many would pay NOT to hear it, which is one reason why satellite radio is successful. "

" We've got all three kinds! Country, washed-up rockers, and stuff you'd only hear on public radio. What a lame lineup. "
