CHICAGO -- Life imitated art on a Chicago movie set when a police officer arrested suspected gang members involved in a drive-by shooting near the filming of Johnny Depp’s mobster flick “Public Enemies.”

Friday morning’s shooting occurred about a block away from the set on the city’s South Side. It happened about half an hour before Depp arrived on the set. No one was injured.

A police detective who blocked traffic while film crews worked nearby told WGN-TV that he arrested five juveniles and seized a handgun from their vehicle. One was later charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

“Public Enemies” stars Depp as infamous bank robber John Dillinger and co-stars Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis.

The movie has filmed in the Chicago area since March.
